What is the difference between state and superior court in Georgia?
Georgia state courts handle misdemeanor matters. Superior courts have broader jurisdiction and preside over felony trials. The correct court depends on the charge and the court’s jurisdiction.
State courts can conduct jury trials. For that reason, a case does not necessarily need to move to superior court simply because a jury trial is requested. The Georgia Courts guide describes the jurisdiction of each court.
